I received a sample of this natural rejuvenating enzyme face mask and have used it twice. I asked for this sample in order to determine if I wanted to sell it on my Open Sky shop. I have to say that I love this face mask imensely.

How Young is Too Young to be Home Alone?

This morning while watching a new show the question was asked: How young is too young to be left home alone? This is not the same situation as the movie "Home Alone" where the young boy was left by accident as their family took off on vacation with extended family. This situation refers to parents choosing to let their children as young as five-years-old stay home alone. This may be after school, while running errands or while having dinner with their spouse or a date.

Now, this is certainly a controversial issue when you look at all the horrible things that can happen to a child left alone. But when you look deeply into the subject you find that there are other situations for letting children stay home alone. There are children who are left home alone because their single mother is working and is working more than one job. They may be left home alone as their parent could not afford a child care program or sitter. There may not be any family that could fill n the gap. There may be an illness that takes the parent away from the home to the hospital for their own care. The parent may be with a sibling in the hospital. Then there are parents who leave their children home while they are scoring some drugs.

Yes, there may be after school care that is only a couple of dollars a day or sometimes free for the child. But many of these programs expect the children to be picked up by 6:00 p.m. What if the parent works until seven or eight at night? Who picks up the child then? It is easier to check your child at home for those few hours than it is to find a ride from strangers to bring their child home. What if a parent does not meet the financial requirements for free child care but does not have enough money for the fees.

There are classes for latch-key children as young as 5-yeas-old to learn how to be safe while home alone. It is never ideal for children to be left alone at young ages. But with support and education the child can remain as safe as possible. But here is an idea, if you know your neighbor has children that are home alone while they are working, make friends with the mom. Let her know you will be more than happy to help her children out when she is gone.

Drake University Fraternity Brother Unaware He Was Sexually Assaulted

In Des Moines Iowa at Drake University a fraternity brother realized that he had been sexually assaulted when he saw images on another fraternity brother's computer. The images showed he was 'out of it' and being sexually assaulted. He remembered nothing of this act against him and it appeared that he had been drugged while this had happened. He put the images on a memory card and took the images to the police.

This story is very upsetting to me. I am from Des Moines and lived close to Drake University. I think my husband still has our Drake University sweatshirt. It is upsetting to me for more than that, my oldest son is just days away from heading off to college. Granted it is not Drake University or any university in Iowa, but he is heading off to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

It is upsetting to me as he will be away from home for long periods of time and could be a victim of a random act of violence. He could be a victim of an act of violence purposed for him. College is often a time of exploration, alcohol, drugs and stupidity. This does not mean that my son will partake in the worse case scenario, but I attended college and I know.

Obviously I would want my son to make smart choices that lead him to become accomplished in life in worthy endeavors. But there is a chance that his roommate, classmates, group mates and others he comes in contact with give him the opportunity to make stupid choices.

There is something remarkable to have the courage to take the images of yourself being sexually assaulted to the police. To have the courage to take these images you just viewed for the first time before you have time to understand really it yourself is remarkable.

So the lesson is what? To make good choices that do not allow you to be placed into the position that this young man was in. Or what it to do the right thing after your find yourself in this type of position? It is hard to make this young man out to be the bad guy when he was drinking and ingested a drug unintentionally. It is hard to make this young man out to the bad guy when he was drugged and sexually assaulted. But it is a mother's responsibility to make sure that your son or daughter know that no matter what 'stupid' thing they may have done that they never deserve to be sexually assaulted. It is a mother's responsibility to let their child knows that they will be loved and supported no matter what happens.

An Apology is Not Enough, Cancer Hoax Takes Much Need Money and Services

Toronto, Ontario, Canada has been given quite a shock. A Toronto woman faked a cancer diagnosis to gain money, services and trips. This hoax went as far as her plucking eyelashes and starving herself for the affect of being on chemotherapy. Why? She claimed that she wanted to be noticed and bring her family back together.
Hmmmm. There was nothing else she could do to get this attention from others than take money, gifts and services from others. All in the name of cancer makes one really upset if their family members have had cancer or currently has cancer.
This seems to be a popular activity to undertake as a woman in the US has been sentenced to jail, probation and repaying the money that she took for her cancer hoax. Doesn't anyone understand how horrendous this is?
There are people who are dying everyday from cancer. Families are loosing mothers, fathers, children and others from cancer. These women have a horrible amount of greed in them. Greed for attention, greed for money and greed for taking from others who need the services. There has to be something wrong with these people who believe that this is going to be acceptable in any manner by any person.
No one should feel sorry for these individuals who take from the sick and the dying. It should be made known to everyone who has ever had a thought of trying this type of scheme that will be a stiff penalty for this crime. Then we need to make sure that we can back this up. This needs to be something that someone thinks long and hard about before doing something this horrible to cancer victims.

Open Sky Shop Grand Opening August 10th on Taking Care of the Written Word

'What We Have' Tells Us What We Need

The book 'What We Have' by Amy Boesky was delivered on Wednesday about 10:00 a.m.and by 11:00 p.m. that same night I had finished one of the most wonderful non-fiction books. I took time among reading to do regular chores but I had to get back to Amy's story. Amy, Julie and Sarah are sisters with an horrible problem they were faced with their entire life. They shared a family trait and it was a deadly one.

When reading the title and the inside cover one finds out that cancer is the family trait that has been shared with all the women in the family. Sadly, all the women are having daughters and not sons. This means that the girls in the family is faced with the same result, cancer.

First impressions of this book would mean show that this was a book full of depressing chapters of depressing episodes in life. That first impression would have been wrong. This book is filled with much humor, insight, joy, pain, growth and struggle. This family is deciding how to live in the present while taking into account their past and their futures.

I do not recall one part of the story that was slow and difficult to read. I thought that I was sitting next to Amy on her sofa in a sea of green shag. We could have been drinking some tea and I could have been listening to Amy tell a story about her family. It was that real and engaging.

You realize in this story of this family that they were exceedingly normal with an difficult situation to overcome. You begin to ask yourself that same questions they had to ask. It is impossible to know if you would make the same decisions they did, but you definitely admit that you are relieved that you did not have to make actually those same decisions.

More Child Abuse Reports Coming In: Does That Mean More Children Are Reporting Abuse or More Abuse Taking Place?

A movement has been announced to look at the threat the Internet poses with an increase in child abuse. The question asked, is the Internet making child abuse more prevalent? Many believe it is. The truth of the matter is that child abuse has been occurring for many years.

The Internet has not increased the numbers of children being abused. It may have made the evidence of child abuse easier to detect. The detection is not simply seeing images on the screen. The detection is also seeing resources, online chats and other support for children who have been or are currently abused. These resources enable a child who is being abused to see help that is available.

It has also made the common person more aware of what child abuse is. It has made the signs of an abuse victim easier to identify. With this awareness comes the ability for the common person to take action to assist a child. It is an early alert system for the child to receive help.
